The Roman ruins on the sea front prove that people have loved to live in Luz for at least two thousand years, just as the narrow cobbled streets that lead you to the beach promenade, remind our visitors of the more recent transformation of Luz from Algarvean picturesque fishermans village to the thriving village resort it is today. The pedestrian promenade runs along the water front to an old church, Nostra Senhora da Luz, for which the village is named.
The central feature of the resort is the sandy beach, flanked on the east by the imposing cliff of the Rocha Negra (Black Rock) and on the west by the rocks below the Fortaleza (Fortress). The sandy beach provides safe bathing, while in summer time a full range of water sports is available in the bay including sailing, wind surfing, water skiing and para gliding as well as boat trips for those who like to fish, watch the dolphins or discover the caves near the unspoilt Portuguese coast.
Situated in the heart of Quinta’s lush gardens, today this Roman Well provides fresh, clear water for the swimming pool whereby you can swim, relax and dine by day or feast on the weekly poolside Portuguese barbeque, or freshly grilled sardines, caldeirada (Fish Stew), bacalhau (Cod Fish) or enjoy our famous King Prawns.
Whether you are sampling our local wines and homemade specialities, taking advantage of the sauna and pool, booking a massage or simply having breakfast on your own private terrace, at Quinta Paraíso da Mia, the emphasis is on relaxing within calm surroundings.
